Simple Ways To L.O.V.E Your Hair This Month

February 2nd, 2018

It's officially Love month ladies, so let's not be stingy with the TLC! Here are 4 simple ways to love your hair better, starting from today!

L is for Let Go of those Crusty Ends

Damaged ends will eventually break off (resulting in shorter hair) and are also more likely to tangle with other hairs causing collateral damage to otherwise healthy parts of the hair. I don't know how else to say this - but they've got to go.

O is for h2-O! Moisturise your Hair, Every Night.

Most of us don't leave our homes in the morning without moisturising our skin (at least I really hope not). Heck, we carry around miniature lotion and lip balm tubes just in case we spot some residual "ash" lurking on our bodies.

Now, I'll go out on a limb here and say that topping up your hair's moisture levels on the hour may be ever so slightly excessive. But, properly moisturising your hair every night before you wrap it up for bed won't take more than 10 minutes and will ensure your ends remain healthy and strong for maximum length retention. For optimal results, focus on your ends and follow your leave-in with a light butter to ensure the moisture is sealed up.

V is for Very Careful Manipulation

S/O to all my fellow lazy trimmers. The best way to prevent the need for a frequent cut/trim is watching how and how often we manipulate our hair. More manipulation = more damage, quicker. Damage to ends is inevitable, but it can be slowed down significantly. Instead of brushing/combing your dry hair every day with a rat-tail comb to achieve the perfect 'half up, half side, twisted, braided 'fro bun puff curl', swap to finger detangling once a week on lubricated hair and wear simple styles where your ends are tucked away.

E is for Explore and Understand Your Hair

All four previous resolutions provide best results when they operate as a part of an intentional haircare regimen that works for your unique hair profile. Discovering your hair profile is by far the most crucial ingredient for hair success this year as it allows us to always be one step ahead, and a lot more prepared to meet our hair's needs.
